Thuy La

Technician

Research Interests:

I first worked as a microbiologist at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in vaccine research and development. After moving with my husband to Ithaca, I began work as a medical technologist in the Molecular Diagnostics section at the Cornell Vet School. Upon completion of my master's degree, I returned to the Vet School to work in a biosafety level 3  tuberculosis research lab, a job which required my background in microbiology, molecular biology, and biochemistry.

As a lab technician in the Buckler Lab, I am using my molecular skills to assist in designing and optimizing non-standard and general protocols, including extracting DNA, RNA, protein, and metabolomic samples. I'll also be preparing DNA and RNA libraries for next generation sequencing protocols and submitting samples to service providers and Buckler Lab collaborators. My additional duties include testing new sample sequencing, proteomics, or metabolomic technologies as well as implementing workshop instruction and training of other lab members, staff, students, and outside collaborators.
